Our Mission

The Making Music Matter Foundation promotes culture and community in Las Vegas—and around the world—through unparalleled musical performances and education programs.

About Us

Musical instruments were once classified as haut (“high”) or bas (“low”). While the stringed bas instruments were confined to the royal courts, the haut instruments—brass, woodwinds, and drums—were played outdoors, at festivals, even during battle. They provided the music of life.

The Making Music Matter Foundation celebrates the vibrant tradition of the haut instruments. Building on the 10-year success of its flagship ensemble, the Desert Winds, the Foundation showcases the remarkable talent in Las Vegas through dazzling musical performances.

Along with featuring today’s stars, the Making Music Matter Foundation nurtures the next generation of musical leaders. It oversees the Honor Winds program, which provides unparalleled music education for middle and high school students through Clark County and around the country.

Underneath everything we do is the core belief that music and the arts are fundamental to elevating our community. The Foundation makes music and education accessible to all through free public performances, discount ticketing, and scholarships. We strive to connect people through shared emotional experiences and remind each other what it means to be human.

What We Offer

The Desert Winds includes approximately 50 musicians and serves as the flagship ensemble for the Making Music Matter Foundation. Along with its regular performance season, the group offers a free Veterans Day concert to honor those who served our country and the spectacular holiday concert in December.

Chambers features small ensembles in a casual and intimate setting. Musicians perform in unusual and experimental combinations for a small crowd.

The Honor Winds provides summer and yearlong music education programs that include master classes, leadership training, and performance opportunities. Participants from low-income households receive scholarship support or other financial aid.
